The books say that there are 906 police stations, 230 circle offices, 91 SDPOs and 31 DPOs in the state. Under each inspector, there will be a number of sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspectors and constables. The rural police stations are grouped into circles, which come under sub-divisions, led by Deputy Superintendents of police. The Police Inspectors take care of the police circles. The administration is divided into different regions, consisting of a group of districts, each region headed by Inspector General of Police. In Bangalore city, the administration is headed by the Commissioner of Police of the rank of Additional DGP. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, controls the Mysore and Hubli-Dharwad cities. All these Officers are sub-ordinates to Director General and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka.
