National Defence Academy (NDA)
The National Defense Academy (NDA) is a joint or combined service academy of Indian Armed Forces (IAF), where military students of the three services, namely the Army, the Air Force and the Navy are trained together in the basic skills of war strategy before they go to their relevant academies. Its headquarters is located near Pune in Khadakwasla in the state of Maharashtra. The National Defense Academy (NDA) was the first tri-service military institute in the world and is rated as the one of the best academy in the world.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is responsible for the recruitment of candidates in the National Defense Academy and for this UPSC conducts examinations twice every year. The selection of the candidates is based on the written test followed by extensive interviews known as the SSB for testing the psychological characters, leadership qualities as well as social & physical skills and also medical tests. Out of the Lakhs of applicants only about 9000 are shortlisted for the SSB and out of these only about 300-350 are selected. Out of these approximately 200 candidates are accepted for the Army, 100 for the Air Force and 50 are selected for the Navy. The recruitment under National Defense Academy are for the officer grade with handsome pay and other perks.
The basic requirements for getting into National Defense Academy (NDA) are that the candidate’s age should be between 16 and half to 19 years and should have passed 12 the class of the 10+2 pattern of education or equivalent. But for the Air Force and Naval Wings the candidates should have Physics and Mathematics as part of their curriculum in their 12th or equivalent.
